Marung Cloud Wallet

An inclusive, bank-neutral wallet proposition: customers receive money, retain a digital balance and use it for everyday payments.

Proposed funds flow

Approved funding partner

Bank or payment rail accepts incoming funds.

Partner-held customer funds

Approved safeguarding and reconciliation arrangements; Marung records the corresponding wallet balance.

Wallet recipient or merchant

Authorised transfer or payment, with settlement through approved partner rails.

The wallet ledger is a record of balances and obligations, not a bank account. Custody, redemption, settlement timing and fees must be agreed with approved partners before launch.

Proposed integration architecture

Customer channels

Accessible web/mobile wallet; English narration first, with isiXhosa, isiZulu and Sesotho planned. USSD subject to a future telecom partnership.

Identity & access

Registration, phone verification, partner-led identity checks, account recovery and consent.

Wallet & payment orchestration

Authorised instructions, wallet ledger, transaction history, idempotency, limits, audit trail and reconciliation.

Partner connections

Bank funding, safeguarded funds, payment processing, merchant settlement and compliance services; none are currently connected.

Operational controls

Fraud monitoring, financial-crime controls, complaints, reversals, incident handling and reporting agreed with partners.

Integration-ready by design

Each journey step calls one wallet capability through a single integration layer. Today every capability runs as a simulation. Once commercial, technical and regulatory arrangements are finalised, approved bank and payment APIs plug into the same layer — the customer journey shown in the demo stays exactly the same.
